Scholarly communication is the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use. Academic communication, also called scholarly communication, refers to methods of communication that are highly structured and generally only used in pedagogical settings. Academic communication can include the words and structures used to express ideas, as well as the methods by which ideas are disseminated. Scholarly communication refers to the complex system of creation, dissemination, and use of the products of scholarship, both formal and informal, and the social, legal, and economic issues and pressures at play on the system.
